Inner Calm = CONNECTION

Inner Calm = CONNECTION

Hello Friends.

We all know this time of year brings both magic and chaos. It’s easy to feel the stress and pressure as we try to create the perfect holiday full of positive family and friend connections. Not to mention holiday travel, gift-giving, and all the other things that pile up. It can be disorienting to say the least. And when we feel disoriented, you can bet our kids do, too. Feeling disoriented makes it hard to connect.

And so, I’m offering three small but powerful things to help you stay grounded and present these next couple of weeks, which has the power to invite deeper connection.

1. Create a morning ritual for yourself.

This can be as simple as putting your feet on the floor and taking a deep breath when you wake up each morning. Or take it further with a morning meditation and intention with your coffee or tea. Whatever it is, when we have something predictable to count on, it’s easier to stay oriented and grounded throughout the day.

2. Pause before you greet your kids.

Whether it’s first thing in the morning, or throughout the day as you see each other, take a breath before approaching them. Try to meet them with your full self instead of a stressed out version of it, and allow them to show up however they need to in that moment. Remind yourself that they are amazingly powerful and beautifully complex humans who are feeling the energetic buzzing, too.

3. End the day with intentional calmness.

Maybe this includes another ritual of some sort. Maybe you say something you’re grateful for when your head hits the pillow. Or look into the mirror when you’re brushing your teeth and remind yourself to trust the process of being a parent. Find what feels right for you, then stick to it.

These seem like simple things, but trust me when I say they can change your entire holiday season. In them, you are honoring yourself and will find more calmness, presence, and connection in your days.

Because at the end of the day, staying grounded is all about intentionality. And when you’re grounded, your family and your kids will feel that and lean into it, creating a beautiful domino-effect of calmness. How magical does that sound?
